Tribute

Barbara A. Holl, 90, of Niceville, FL passed away Thursday morning, March 12, 2020. Barbara was born on December 5, 1929, in Newark, NJ. She was the daughter of Edward and Jeanne Kunkel, and sister to Edward and James. Barbara graduated from high school and attended Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey. She was a whiz with numbers, and her husband Al often said she could balance a checkbook faster in her head than he could with a calculator. She was a lifelong student, furthering her knowledge whenever and wherever her life travels took her.  Barbara met Al Holl in New Jersey, and they married in 1950. She traveled to many places as an Air Force wife, including Elmendorf AFB, AK, Andrews and Bolling AFB, MD, Hanscom Field, MA, Naha AFB, Okinawa, Pope AFB, NC, and Eglin AFB, FL. While on Okinawa, she was involved with her children’s swim team, learned how to ride a horse, enjoyed visiting other countries, and was involved with many Air Force wives activities and volunteer services. When Al retired from the Air Force and started teaching at DoD schools in Guam and Germany, Barbara continued traveling to other countries with him.  Barbara is survived by her four children: Barbara Schecter and her husband Dan of Chester, VA; Brian Holl and his wife Holly of McKinney, TX; Kathy Stroppel-Holl and her husband Max Stroppel of Corvallis, MT; Richard Holl and his wife Kim of Jersey City, NJ; grandchildren: Chris Stroppel and his wife Danielle; Ryan Stroppel; Michael Schecter and his wife Erin; Matthew, Joshua, and Natalie Holl; and Nick and Kai Holl; one great grandchild Liam Schecter; and many nieces and nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her husband Albert Holl, son Albert Holl, Jr., and brother Edward Kunkel. A celebration of life will be held at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home at 1405 John Sims Parkway East, Niceville, FL on Saturday, March 21, with visitation at 11am and service at 12.  Expressions of love and sympathy may be viewed or placed at www.mclaughlintwincities.com.
