Barbara Anne Whitmore of Valparaiso, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, 26 December 2018 in Niceville, Florida due to complications from prolonged COPD. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Lethel and Jonnie McElroy, on 25 January 1934, Barbara attended Phillips High School, and upon graduation joined the United States Air Force. She served in Air Force Telecommunications as a teletype operator in the Pentagon from January 1952 until December 1954. She was a wonderful wife, a terrific mother, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ray, and is survived by her daughter, Sandra Whitmore of Valparaiso, her sons, David of Valparaiso, Jon (Monica) of Burke, Virginia, and Stephen (Donna) of Uxbridge, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. According with her wishes, she will be cremated and, as there will be no visitation or funeral service, there will be a committal ceremony at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola on 10 January 2019 at 1:30 pm at Committal Shelter B, after which she will be placed at the gravesite with Ray. Dr. Herstel Carter will preside at the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the American Lung Association or to Crosspoint United Methodist Church, Niceville, Florida.
