Ruth N Vass

May 8, 1924 ~ December 8, 2018 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Tribute

Our loving Mother Ruth Watson Vass, age 94 went to be with the Lord Saturday, December 8, 2018. She was married to the late Bernard Michael Vass.  She was born to the late Judson Watson Sr. and Nan Elizabeth Morris Watson on May 8, 1924 in rural Dublin, GA.  At age 11, during a summer revival at Shady Grove Baptist Church she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in a boiling spring under a railroad trestle in rural Georgia. She graduated from the Brewton School at age 16 and proceeded to attend Barry College for Women, on scholarship, until her education was interrupted by the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the U.S. involvement in WWII. She left college to volunteer with the WWII effort at a naval facility in Macon GA.  She worked on a blasting cap assembly line as an inspector of Naval ordinance.  She retired from the Okaloosa County School System after 20 years of employment at Oak Hill Elementary School.  She was an inspiration to her children, Debbie, Vanessa and Scott, showing them the way she lived her life by teaching them the importance of loving the Lord and sharing His love with others. She lived her life and faced its challenges with quiet dignity taking pleasure in the simple things life presented. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Niceville for over 50 years, attending and teaching classes and enjoyed being a member of the FBCN choir for many years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, music and reading.  She was known for her beautiful flower beds, her beautiful voice and took great joy in reading and studying her Bible, a dedicated student of the Lords word.  Preceded in Death by her husband of 40 years Bernard M. Vass; Parents: Judson Watson Sr. & Nan Elizabeth Morris Watson; Siblings: Frances Barfield, Judson Watson Jr., Edsel Watson and Fred Watson. Survived by Children: Deborah A. Roper Ginger (Bill); Vanessa V. Davis (Elmer); Scott M. Vass (Michelle); Granddaughter: Alyson Ruth Davis-Eudy (Alex); Siblings: Clovis Rowland, Iris Frost, Ray Watson, Grace Lord, Lynn Watson and Linda Gormany; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.  She was our loving Mother, faithful friend our beacon on the darkest days and our sunshine every day.  We love you Mother for the gift of love you gave so freely.
